Chicken Masala in pressure cooker

Hello friends

Today I would be cooking Chicken Masala in pressure cooker, another one pot wonder from my mother. This comes to your rescue when you have had a tiring day at work and do not want to get into chopping and grinding chores. Ingredients that we would need for this recipe are simple and minimal.

So let’s get right into it

Serving: 2 people

Ingredients:

  • Chicken 200 to 300 grams preferably boneless
  • 2 medium size onions chopped
  • 1 medium size tomato chopped
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 garlic
  • 2 to 3 cardamom(elaichi)
  • 1 inch cinnamon(Dalchini)
  • Cumin seed 1 tsp(Jeera)
  • 2 inch coconut sliced or grated
  • Coriander leaves 1 tblsp
  • 2 Bay Leaves
  • Oil 1 tblsp
  • Red chilli powder 5 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander powder 1.5 tsp
  • Garam Masala Β½ tsp

Steps:

  • For preparing the masala, put onions, ginger, garlic, elaichi, dalchini, jeera, coconut, coriander leafs (leave some for garnishing) in mixer grinder and make a fine paste out of it
  • Heat the oil in pressure cooker and add bay leaf into it, once bay leaf starts to change its colour, add the paste and all dry masala

  • Give the contents a good mix and add chopped tomato to it
  • Keep cooking the masala by adding small amount of water till the masala starts to change its colour to dark red, your tomatoes are done and the masala does not have raw fragrance of ginger and garlic in it
  • Once masala is done you will start to notice oil at the surface and colour of the masala will change completely from red to dark red

  • Now is the time when you add your chicken, salt and Β½ cup water
  • Cover the cooker with its lid and cook on high flame till you get 3 whistles
  • Now turn the flame to low and cook for another 5 minutes
  • Once cooker depressurises, open it and add coriander leaves on top as garnishing
  • Take out the chicken in serving plate and serve piping hot chicken masala

Tip:

  • You can adjust the amount of red chilli powder and garam masala based of your taste, I use homemade garam masala, it is very strong so I add small amount of it
  • You can also adjust the amount of water if you want more gravy like consistency by adding more water while cooking the chicken
